2. Location: Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics
3. Date Available: 01/01/2024 or later
4. Responsibilities: A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr Jean Celli in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, to support ongoing NIH-funded research on the mechanisms of cellular pathogenesis of Brucella abortus infections. Several projects on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of bacterial proliferation within eukaryotic cells are available, including how bacterial effector proteins modulate host cellular membrane transport pathways in the context of bacterial vacuole biogenesis and proliferation. The successful candidate will develop and apply new and existing molecular and cell biological techniques such as bacterial genetics, high-throughput genetic screening, confocal microscopy, protein biochemistry and molecular biology to study pathogen-host cell interactions. The candidate will perform the duties of this position under the supervision of Dr. Jean Celli. The candidate is expected to be highly motivated for career development and committed to driving federally funded high impact and high-quality research and to develop a focused area of research as a basis for development of an independent career. Additional areas of focus will include grant and manuscript writing, presentation skills, budgeting, and lab management.
5. Qualifications: Ph.D. (or M.D.) in Microbiology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Immunology.
6. EOE/AA Statement: The University of Vermont is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Applications from women, veterans, individuals with disabilities and people from diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds are encouraged.
7. Application Procedure: Send letter of application, curriculum vitae and contact information of three references to Dr Jean Celli at jean.celli@med.uvm.edu.
